87th Avenue; Olive Avenue to Hatcher Road
Project Description
This project is to provide for the
design, construction, and right-of-way acquisition required to
widen the west half of 87th Avenue between Olive
Avenue and Hatcher Road. This will include pavement, storm
drainage, curbs, gutters, driveways and sidewalk improvements. Pavement widening will
provide for one lane in each direction with a center two-way
left turn lane and bike lanes. No additional widening of
87th Avenue is
anticipated on the east side of the road adjacent to the
existing subdivision, however; pavement repairs/resurfacing will
likely occur. In addition, this project will construct a
48-inch diameter regional drainage pipe along 87th
Avenue from Olive Avenue extending north to just beyond Hatcher
Road where it will be plugged for future extension to Mountain
View Road. This drainage pipe will not only provide future
regional drainage benefits to the Old Town Peoria vicinity, but
will provide the needed immediate drainage improvement to help
mitigate current nuisance storm drain ponding occurring at the
southwest corner of Hatcher Road and 87th Avenue.
Additional street lighting is not anticipated at this time as
existing lighting improvements along this stretch of roadway
currently meets the City of Peoria guidelines.

Status
The City of
Peoria is currently soliciting for a design consultant to complete the
needed project design documents for construction. An Area
Drainage Master Plan Update was recently completed in 2007 that
provided the City with the necessary regional drainage
recommendations which will be incorporated into this project. It
is anticipated that the final design will be complete in mid to
late 2008, with construction beginning immediately after. During
construction, traffic restrictions will be required along 87th
Avenue as well at the intersection of 87th Avenue and
Olive Avenue to complete a storm drainage connection in Olive
Avenue.
